One of the most important lessons we can learn involves misplaced confidence in self. This is the first step down the path to failure. In essence, it is thinking that you can do something, or know better than what God knows.
"Simon Peter, said to Jesus, 'Lord, where are you going?' And Jesus answered, 'Where I go, you cannot follow me now. But you shall follow me later.' And Peter said to him, 'Lord, why can't I follow you right now? I will lay down my life for you.' Then Jesus answered, 'Will you really lay down your life for me? Very truly I tell you, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times!'" ~John 13:36-38
"Peter declared, 'Even if all fall away, I will not.'" ~Mark 14:29
As we know, Peter was all talk! This was not for lack of trying. Peter felt awful when he denied Christ not once, not twice, but three times, just as Jesus had said.
Unfortunately, trying is different from trusting.
When I try, it's about ME trying.
When I trust, when I put my faith in God, somehow, even though the obstacles seem impossible, God works in and through them through the power of His Spirit, and He succeeds to accomplish His will, whatever that might be.
Learning to trust instead of try...
