You will keep in
perfect peace
him whose mind is
steadfast,
because he trusts in you.
~Isaiah 26:3
Steadfast is from a term that means “to lean, to rest, to support.” It’s the idea of being sustained as a result of leaning on something supporting you. The words translated here as “whose mind is” comes from a verb meaning “to frame” or “to fashion or form”. In the original Hebrew language, this particular construction has the idea of “a frame of mind”.
If you put those two thoughts together, they convey this: “A frame of mind that is receiving support from leaning and therefore is being sustained.” This verse further tells us that the source of this steadfast frame of mind, and therefore peace, is trusting in the Lord.
It has been my observation that apart from the Rock, peace is merely a distant dream…a philosophical fantasy…that glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading!

Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding ~ Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the LORD forever,
for the LORD, the LORD, is the Rock eternal ~Isaiah 26:4
