Do not pray for easy lives. Pray to be stronger men! Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers. Pray for power equal to your tasks." ~Phillips Brooks
Popeye was not all that impressive until he ate his spinach. Underdog was a little pathetic until he took his 'super energy pill'. Superman was not "super" on his own planet, but derived his super powers on earth from the yellow sun. Spiderman was a wimpy teenager until the spider bite gave him his 'spidey powers'.
To do great things requires great strength; and great strength has to come from somewhere.
When David offered to fight Goliath, he was initially scoffed at by Saul, because of his young age and small size.
But David knew that the source of his strength was not in his experience as a fighter, nor in the size of his muscles (nor in a can of spinach, an energy super pill, the sun or a spider bite!).
David knew the True Source of his strength.
"I love you, O Lord, my strength" (Psalm 18:1)
And using just a slingshot, David won.
As we move into this week, let's draw on his strength and move ahead purposefully and powerfully.
In His Strength...
