Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. ~Philippians 1:6
Many of us think or function as if we believe that God's promise of sanctification is actually a life sentence of trying harder and harder to be perfect.

There is nothing further from the truth.

Perfectionism is about "me" and "my work."
Sanctification is about God and His work.

Perfectionism strives and tries harder.
Sanctification surrenders.

Perfectionism is rooted in pride.
Sanctification is rooted in humility.

The process of sanctification can be compared to an iceberg, which is almost 90% under water. As the sun shines on the iceberg, the exposed part melts, moving the lower part upward.

In the same way, we are usually aware of only a small part of our sinfulness and need, which is all we can deal with at any one time. However, as the light of God’s work in our lives changes us in the areas we know about, we become aware of new areas needing the work of God. (Discover the Book God Wrote, Bill Bright)

God's job is to keep His promise and achieve his purpose.

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son. ~Romans 8:28-29 (NLT)

Our job is to humbly turn to Him with each dark area revealed to be forgiven and cleansed.

But if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from everything we've done wrong. ~ 1 John 1:9 (CEB)
