We cannot truly worship God in the celebration of Christ’s resurrection until we understand what Christ endured for our sakes on the cross. The cross stands throughout the ages as the most powerful act of love ever known.
After he was beaten and mocked by the governor’s soldiers, Jesus was flogged with a strap using three cords which each contained a piece of bone that tore the flesh to shreds. “The soldiers then hammered a long square nail into the hands or wrists; this shape would heighten the already excruciating pain. Another nail was driven through the ankles into the wood. Raising the cross, executioners would then drop it into a hole in the ground; the thud from it falling into place would further tear the flesh.” The only way to breathe was to push up on his bloody ankles.
Knowing all this, Jesus chose to obey the Father and lay down his life for us on the cross. He died so that our sins may be forgiven, that we may have life in Him, be given a love relationship with God the and spend eternity with Him. There is no greater love!
When situations occur that you don’t understand and cause you to question God’s love, remember the cross. When you celebrate Easter on Sunday, remember the price Jesus paid because He loves you, and worship Him.
