Leadership: It's not about knowledge alone

It is possible to be knowledgeable and yet remain unchanged by that knowledge.  Actually, if you think about it, this happens quite often.  Most of us know which foods are good for us; yet frequently, we choose to ignore it.  Most of us know that exercise is good for us; yet often ignore that as well.

Knowledge, in and of itself, will only get you so far...unless we have the character to be changed by it and apply it in our lives.

According to the Barna group, 60% of Christians surveyed consider themselves "leaders," yet 82% of them agree that we are facing a leadership crisis. Now that's something to think about!  Why the disconnect?

The answer is actually not complicated.  The vast majority of leadership resources focus on management techniques, competency and skill building, or communication.  Great knowledge to have!  However, very little of it focuses on the character of the leader.  Internal character traits cannot be overcome and changed by learning new management tactics of better ways of communicating.

Apart from Jesus and His power, we are not able to overcome pride, fear, external pressures, or insecurities, etc. Jesus is the only ONE who offers a model of leadership that's built on freedom and complete security in Him and His power at work within us. The world teaches us solutions that are built on self-empowerment and self-reliance.  Not only does this create so much added stress and pressure; it will never be a long term solution, because we are human and we will fail at one time or another.  Leading like Jesus frees us to reach the heights of influence that can never be reached on our own.

For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.  ~ Mark 10:45

"Come, follow me," Jesus, Mark 1:17
