Can you imagine what you would have thought Jesus meant when he uttered those words? He died. They buried him and rolled the stone in front of the grave. I would think His followers thought that was the end of the story.
But it wasn't. And it isn't.
Three days later, the tomb was empty. God raised Jesus so that death could be conquered. God is the God who gives life to death; who gives second chances (and third and fourth...); who makes all things new; whose mercies are new every morning.
That means, as Norman Vincent Peale said, "It’s always too early to quit."
Max Lucado puts it this way:
"The God of surprises strikes again…God does that for the faithful.
Just when the failure is too great for grace, David is pardoned…
The lesson? Three words. Don’t give up…
Is the road long? Don’t stop.
Is the night black? Don’t quit.
God is watching. For all you know right at this moment…the check may be in the mail. The apology may be in the making. The job contract may be on the desk.
Don’t quit. For if you do, you may miss the answer to your prayers. "
