Game Plan

1/23/2017

In less than 2 weeks, the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons will go head to head in Super Bowl LI.  You can bet that neither team will be heading into this game unprepared.

In a January 2015 Forbes article, Coach Kevin Gilbride of the New York Giants said that in his 20 years of coaching experience

(which included two Super Bowls) two interconnected, critical elements helped guide a team to success: preparation and confidence.  He went on to say that confidence comes from a successful track record and preparation.  Preparation and confidence allow the team to tune out the hooplah and be present for the matter at hand - the game.
In the 'game of life', this is true as well.  A successful life takes both:

Confidence

Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. ~Philippians 1:6 (NIV)

Therefore, my friends, since we have confidence to enter the sanctuary by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain (that is, through his flesh),  and since we have a great priest over the house of God,  let us approach with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.  Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who has promised is faithful. ~Hebrews 10:19-23 (NRSV)

and

Preparation

Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,  for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose. ~Philippians 2:12-13 (NIV)

Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness.  For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.  In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. ~Ephesians 6:13-17
