God appointed Joshua to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land. Joshua was one of twelve spies who forty years earlier were on a covert operation to determine what they would face when they entered that land. They discovered that even though the land flowed with “milk and honey,” there were also “giants.” |
Joshua believed God and that pleased God. Hebrews 11:6 asserts, “And without faith it is impossible to please God.”
Forty years later Joshua chose to continue to believe God as he assumed the responsibility to lead into the Promised Land. He believed the promises that God would go before him (Joshua 1:3) and be withhim and never forsake him (Joshua 1:5). Believing God, not relying on circumstances, feelings or others reactions, gave Joshua the courage to take on a monumental task.
No matter what you are facing, believe the truth that God is with you. That means that God’s resources—His wisdom, strength, guidance—are available to you. Believe that He goes before you. He knows what is ahead and knows what is best. Choose to keep believing that His sufficiency will make you adequate for the tasks you face. That is what gives us courage!
