A person will worship something, have no doubt about that. We may think our tribute is paid in secret in the dark recesses of our hearts, but it will out. That which dominates our imaginations and our thoughts will determine our lives, and our character. Therefore, it behooves us to be careful what we worship. For what we are worshipping we are becoming. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
When the Pharisees criticized the disciples for eating with ‘unclean’ hands, Jesus’ response, as usual, cut directly to the heart of the matter, with precision aim. He told them, “Nothing outside a man can make him ‘unclean’ by going into him. Rather, it is what comes out of a man that makes him ‘unclean’. (Mark 7:15, emphasis mine)
He went on, “For from within, out of men’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and make a man ‘unclean’. (Mark 7:21-23, emphasis mine)
For as a man thinks within himself, so is he… ~Proverbs 23:7 NASB
Finally, my friends, keep your minds on whatever is true, pure, right, holy, friendly, and proper. Don’t ever stop thinking about what is truly worthwhile and worthy of praise. ~Philippians 4:8 CEV
