For some of us this is a great day to honor dads who were wonderful at giving us encouragement, direction, care, and counsel. They weren’t perfect, of course, but we never doubted their love. For others this day can be a struggle because the word "father" stirs up memories of discouragement, apathy, abandonment or even abuse.
Whether, we had a human father that we can honor; or whether we didn't; whether we are striving to be the best dad we can be; or whether children are not a part of our lives right now; know that our heavenly Father is there for us - always has been and always will be. He knows every hair on our head (Luke 12:7), anticipates our needs even before we ask (Matthew 6:8), gives us every good and perfect gift (James 1:17), has chosen us (Colossians 3:12) and loves us more than we can fathom, (Ephesians 3:18, Romans 8:38,39).
Writer, Aaron Bull penned this note to his Heavenly Father:
For all things you've lead me through and taught me
And for promising me that you will never leave me
Through and through you've shown me the ropes
Helping me in anything and everything I face
Everyday you're there for me by simply calling your name
Rarely do I get to thank you enough. So on this special day, I do exactly that.
Thank you for being our Father!
