Now Joseph was well-built and handsome, and after awhile his master's wife took notice of Joseph and said, "Come to bed with me!" ~ Genesis 39:6-7
Temptation comes in many forms. It can be disguised as fun, excitement, comfort, power or achievement, 'justifiable' anger or resentment - any number of things. All of these things aren't necessarily bad things; but when these things get in the way or, or become more important than pleasing or serving God, we can run into trouble.
The good news is that temptation doesn't come from God and He always provides a way out.
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
~ 1 Corinthians 10:13
When faced with the temptation of Potiphar's wife, Joseph refused.
But he refused. "How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?"
~ Genesis 39:8,9
When it happened again and again, Joseph ran.
She caught him by his cloak and said, "Come to bed with me!" But he left his cloak in her hand and ran out of the house. ~ Genesis 39:12
So when (not if!) we are faced with temptation of any kind, we must choose to resist it and remain faithful to God. We must choose the way out that He is faithful to provide.
And when we fail....and we will....we must choose to confess to God and receive His never-ending mercy and forgiveness.
